Types of Wood
Wood comes in a variety of types, each with its own characteristics, applications, and aesthetic appeal. Generally, wood can be classified into two categories: hardwoods and softwoods.
Hardwoods come from deciduous trees like oak, maple, walnut, and cherry. They are usually denser and more durable, making them ideal for furniture, flooring, and cabinetry.
Softwoods come from coniferous trees such as pine, fir, spruce, and cedar. They grow faster and are easier to work with, making them a common choice for framing, paneling, and outdoor structures.
Each type of wood has unique grain patterns, colors, and levels of hardness. Choosing the right wood depends on your project’s needs and your desired appearance.
